Amendments To An Existing Will

If you already have a Gray's Group Will or LPA, you will need to update it to reflect changes in your circumstances, or legislation, from time to time.

We suggest that any Will has a realistic shelf-life of no more than 5-7 years by which time something significant is likely to have changed either in your circumstances, or in legislation. If nothing else, your home is likely to have increased significantly in value in that time (just think about what it was worth 7 years ago), so Inheritance Tax needs to be reconsidered.

If you have taken advantage of our Premium Document Storage option, then you are able to update your Gray's Group documents without charge, so for most of our customers updating Wills and LPA's should be a painless process.

If you have chosen not to take advantage of the Premium Storage option then you still pay a significantly reduced fee of £69 for amendments to Wills and LPA documents.

Codicils

A codicil is a separate document that modifies a Will. Historically, when Wills were hand-written, a codicil would save money and time because it avoided having to write out the whole Will document from scratch, but with the advent of word processing and fast printers, codicils have become redundant.

Gray's Group always produces a complete new Will each time you want to make any changes so that you only ever have one (professionally bound) document to keep track of.

If they become detached or lost, codicils are worthless, so they are best avoided.
